A woman required medical treatment at the Sir Lester Bird Medical Centre after being struck in the head with a stone during a physical altercation with a young man in the Ottos New Town community in the early hours of Monday morning.
Police said the incident occurred around 12:21 a.m. on June 8 in the Ottos New Town area and was later reported to investigators. Officers subsequently visited the Sir Lester Bird Medical Centre, where they observed the woman receiving treatment in the waiting area, reportedly suffering from a bleeding injury to her head.
According to information provided to police, the woman said she became involved in a physical confrontation with the young man and struck him twice with an aluminium stick. She alleged that he retaliated by striking her in the head with a small stone.
The injured woman was issued with a Police Medical Form to obtain medical treatment and document the extent of her injuries. Police later carried out a search for the alleged offender in the surrounding area, but he was not found.
Investigations into the incident are continuing. Anyone with information about the whereabouts of the suspect is asked to contact the St. John's Police Station or call Crimestoppers anonymously at 800-TIPS (8477).
The altercation is the latest in a string of violent incidents recorded in and around St. John's over the past week, adding to growing public concern about the level of interpersonal violence affecting communities across the capital.
