The Sir Lester Bird Medical Centre has confirmed it is investigating the circumstances surrounding the death of an infant at the hospital, after a video related to the incident began circulating on social media.

In a statement issued Wednesday, the hospital acknowledged the loss and extended its deepest sympathies to the child's family.

"We recognize that this is an incredibly difficult time for the child's family, and we extend our deepest sympathies to them as they grieve this heartbreaking loss," the hospital said.

The SLBMC confirmed that an investigation is underway but said it is unable to comment on specific clinical details at this time, citing the need to respect patient confidentiality and to protect the integrity of the investigative process.

"We appreciate the public's understanding as we continue to handle this matter with the care, sensitivity, and professionalism it deserves," the statement concluded.
