Young people in the All Saints West constituency are being invited to a free career fair later this month, designed to open doors to both technical trades and professional careers — and to equip participants with the practical job-readiness skills needed to walk through them.

The All Saints West Career Fair, organised by the United Progressive Party's All Saints West branch under the leadership of Harold Lovell, is scheduled for Sunday, July 19, from 10:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. at the parking lot across from the Branch Office in All Saints Village (bottom village). Registration and admission are completely free.

Technical and Professional Pathways Under One Roof

The fair will showcase career options across two broad streams. On the technical side, young people will be able to explore pathways in plumbing, heavy duty equipment operation, electrical work, hairdressing and barbering, seamstress work, and drafting. On the professional and non-technical side, the event will feature information on careers in accounting, law, medicine, and nursing.

Beyond career exploration, the fair will also offer hands-on support with two of the most immediately useful skills for any young person entering the job market — resume writing and interviewing techniques.

Why It Matters Now

The career fair arrives at a time when youth employment and skills development are at the centre of national conversations. Chain-snatching incidents involving teenagers, shootings targeting young people on public streets, and growing public concern about what alternatives are available to youth who feel excluded from the formal economy have all contributed to a sense of urgency around practical, community-level interventions that connect young people with opportunity.

An eight-hour career fair offering free access to information about twelve different career paths — from skilled trades to the professions — and direct help with the tools needed to secure employment is exactly the kind of initiative that translates concern into action.

How to Register

The event is open to all young people in the All Saints West community and surrounding areas. For more information, contact Barbara Coates at 727-8617 or Collie Stevenson at 774-6513.
