A new force for female empowerment has made its debut in Antigua and Barbuda, and judging by the energy, laughter, and inspiration that filled the room, the Caribbean Female Empowerment Movement — cFEM — has arrived at exactly the right time.
The cFEM Caribbean Female Empowerment Movement celebrated the successful hosting of its inaugural Bloom and Become Girls Day Camp on Sunday, May 24, 2026, at the Ministry of Environment Conference Room, bringing together girls from across the community for a transformative day of learning, empowerment, self-discovery, and fun.
Vision Behind the Movement
The initiative was founded by renowned counsellor, educator, and youth advocate Nicola Reefe-Babb, and was designed to equip young girls with the confidence, skills, and mindset needed to navigate life successfully while embracing their unique potential. The camp provided a safe and supportive environment where participants were encouraged to believe in themselves, build healthy relationships, develop leadership skills, and dream boldly about their future.
A Day Filled with Purpose
Throughout the day, girls participated in a variety of engaging sessions, interactive activities, team-building exercises, empowerment sessions, creative projects, and discussions focused on self-esteem, personal growth, goal setting, resilience, and positive decision-making. The programme emphasised the importance of recognising one’s worth, embracing individuality, and developing the confidence to pursue personal and academic goals.
Participants also enjoyed opportunities to connect with peers, share experiences, and learn valuable life lessons from facilitators passionate about nurturing the next generation of female leaders. The atmosphere was filled with excitement, encouragement, laughter, and inspiration as girls discovered new strengths and developed a greater sense of self-belief.
Founder’s Message
Founder Nicola Reefe-Babb, a native of Dominica, expressed gratitude to the volunteers, parents, supporters, and participants who contributed to the camp’s success, noting that the vision behind the cFEM girls chapter is to create meaningful programmes that empower girls and young women to overcome challenges, unlock their potential, and become confident leaders within their communities.
“The Bloom and Become Girls Day Camp was more than just a one-day event; it was an investment in the future of our girls. We want every participant to leave knowing that she is capable, valuable, and destined for greatness,” Reefe-Babb shared.
A Community Responds
Parents and guardians praised the programme for its positive impact, noting that the girls left feeling motivated, inspired, and empowered. Many participants expressed excitement about future opportunities to engage in similar activities through the organisation.
What Comes Next
The success of the Bloom and Become Girls Day Camp marks an important milestone for cFEM as it continues its mission of fostering personal growth, leadership, and empowerment among young girls throughout Antigua and Barbuda and the wider Caribbean region. Plans are already underway for additional programmes, workshops, and initiatives aimed at helping girls transform into confident young women with purpose, vision, and determination.
The organisation has stated its ambition to become a household name in Antigua and Barbuda — and on the strength of this debut, that goal appears well within reach.
