man dies after arriving at airport

A man is dead after suffering a sudden medical emergency moments after disembarking a regional flight at VC Bird International Airport on Tuesday afternoon, in a distressing incident that saw airport emergency personnel scramble to save his life.

The passenger had just arrived aboard LIAT Flight 5L301 from Castries, St. Lucia, when he reportedly collapsed inside the airport terminal around 1:00 p.m.

Airport emergency personnel responded immediately, with firefighters from the Coolidge Fire Station administering cardiopulmonary resuscitation as efforts were made to revive him. Emergency Medical Services subsequently arrived and transported the man to hospital for further treatment. Despite the efforts of first responders and medical personnel, he was pronounced dead shortly after arrival.

The man's identity, age, and nationality had not been released by authorities at the time of publication, pending notification of next of kin.

The Royal Police Force of Antigua and Barbuda extended condolences to the family and loved ones of the deceased during what is an extraordinarily difficult time — a loss made all the more painful by the suddenness with which it occurred, just moments after stepping off the plane.
