The Ministry of Works and PIMU have issued a formal advisory to all road users regarding planned temporary traffic management changes on the Sir Sydney Walling Highway, effective Monday, May 20, 2026.

The highway — which connects St. John's to the South Road and forms a key commuter artery — will operate under single-lane alternating traffic control for approximately six weeks while PIMU teams complete emergency drainage improvements and road resurfacing on a 400-metre section near the Cedar Valley junction.

Affected Routes

Motorists are advised to expect delays during peak hours (7–9 AM and 4–6 PM). Flagmen and traffic control officers will be stationed at both ends of the works zone to manage traffic flow safely.

Alternative routes include the Old Parham Road and the Sir George Walter Highway. Residents of Cedar Valley, Pigotts, and Coolidge are advised to allow additional travel time.

PIMU Director of Infrastructure confirmed that the project forms part of a broader $14 million nationwide drainage improvement programme, with at least six other sites earmarked for works before the end of 2026.
