The Vincentian national who struck national cyclist Tahjé Browne and fled the scene on Sir Sydney Walling Highway last week has pleaded guilty to all four charges brought against him — bringing a swift resolution to a case that gripped the nation and sparked a national conversation about road safety and hit-and-run driving.

Kishroy Harry of St Johnson’s Village appeared before Chief Magistrate Ngaio Emanuel in the St John’s Magistrates’ Court on Tuesday, where he entered guilty pleas to dangerous driving, driving without the consent of the owner, driving without a driver’s licence, and driving without insurance.

Harry was remanded and is expected to return to court on July 1 for sentencing. He is represented by attorney Michael Archibald.

What Happened on June 20

The charges arise from an incident on June 20 on Sir Sydney Walling Highway, where Browne was struck by a vehicle near the Transport Board Inspection Centre during the early morning hours. The vehicle involved was a blue Toyota Vitz rental car, which was allegedly taken without the owner’s permission.

Harry was arrested the following day, June 21, after being intercepted at VC Bird International Airport while attempting to leave the country. Investigators had also alleged that he disposed of the clothing he wore at the time of the crash before attempting to depart.

A Nation That Watched Closely

The case drew intense public attention from the moment surveillance footage emerged showing the Toyota Vitz striking Browne before the driver briefly checked on the downed cyclist and then ran from the scene. The video spread rapidly across social media, provoking widespread outrage and prompting Prime Minister Gaston Browne — no relation to the cyclist — to publicly call on the driver to surrender.

Commissioner of Police Everton Jeffers also weighed in, issuing a public warning that fleeing a crash scene is a criminal offence and delivering a pointed challenge to any driver tempted to run: “Why would you flee the scene except there’s something criminal about your action?”

Harry’s guilty pleas to all four charges, entered without contest, mean the court will now move directly to sentencing on July 1 — a day the cycling community and road safety advocates across Antigua and Barbuda will be watching closely. For Tahjé Browne, who was cleared of broken bones following medical examinations but required treatment for a significant laceration to his foot, the pleas represent a measure of justice as he continues his recovery.
