A man is recovering at the Sir Lester Bird Medical Centre after a masked gunman fired a single shot through the window of his parked vehicle in the early hours of Tuesday morning on Dickenson Bay Street — the latest in a deeply troubling series of violent incidents recorded across Antigua and Barbuda in recent days.

Police reportedly responded to reports of a shooting on Dickenson Bay Street around 4:00 a.m. on Tuesday. Reports indicate the victim was sitting inside his vehicle when a masked assailant dressed in black approached, pointed a gun, and fired a single shot through the vehicle’s window.

The window shattered and the victim sustained facial injuries from the broken glass. He was subsequently transported to the Sir Lester Bird Medical Centre for treatment.

Police are continuing investigations into the incident.

No arrests had been made at the time of publication. The identity of the victim has not been released.

The shooting on Dickenson Bay Street — one of St. John’s most active commercial and nightlife corridors — is the latest entry in a deeply alarming catalogue of violent incidents that has gripped Antigua and Barbuda over the past week. That catalogue now includes the murder of Sheldon Dias in Mack Pond, the beating of two Russian sailors on Popeshead Street, a stabbing on St. Mary’s Street, a knifepoint robbery in Lower Ottos captured on surveillance footage, the assault of an 11-year-old child in Golden Grove Extension, an iron pipe attack on a supermarket owner at Wilkinson’s Cross, and the shooting on Dickenson Bay Street.

The cumulative weight of these incidents is prompting growing public demand for urgent and visible action from the Royal Police Force of Antigua and Barbuda and from government at the highest level.

Anyone with information about Tuesday morning’s shooting is urged to contact the Criminal Investigations Department at 462-3913 or 462-3914, or call Crimestoppers anonymously at 800-TIPS (8477).
