Woman critical after being chopped up

A young woman is in critical condition at the Sir Lester Bird Medical Centre after being discovered with multiple chop wounds along a roadside in Seaview Farm in the early hours of Thursday morning, in what authorities believe was a violent attack.

Reports indicate that the woman was found in critical condition early Thursday and rushed to hospital for emergency treatment. She is said to have sustained extensive injuries and was admitted to the Intensive Care Unit, where medical staff have been working to stabilise her condition.

Sources say her injuries are considered life-threatening. The woman has reportedly been sedated as part of ongoing efforts to manage her condition and provide critical care.

The circumstances surrounding the attack remain unclear, and no details have yet emerged about a possible motive, suspect, or sequence of events leading up to her being found.

Police investigations are expected to determine how the woman came to be injured and who may be responsible.

The incident adds to what has already been an alarming stretch of violent crime across Antigua and Barbuda over the past week, which has included a fatal attack in Mack Pond, a knifepoint robbery in Lower Ottos, a shooting on Dickenson Bay Street, and the assault of a child in Golden Grove Extension. The discovery of a woman with life-threatening chop wounds is likely to deepen public concern and add further urgency to the Royal Police Force's newly launched Operation Iron Grip.

This is a developing story and further details will be provided as they become available. Anyone with information about the incident is urged to contact the Criminal Investigations Department at 462-3913 or 462-3914, or call Crimestoppers anonymously at 800-TIPS (8477).
