In a historic electoral triumph, the Antigua and Barbuda Labour Party (ABLP) secured a commanding 15 of 17 parliamentary seats in the April 30, 2026 general election, delivering Prime Minister Gaston Browne an unprecedented fourth consecutive term as leader of the twin-island nation.
The decisive victory — which saw the ABLP retain its dominant grip on the legislature — came on the back of Browne's "Renaissance" campaign, promising continued infrastructure investment, economic growth, and Caribbean leadership. Voter turnout stood at 35.85%, reflecting broad public acceptance of the incumbent government's record.
Results by Constituency
The United Progressive Party (UPP), led by Jamale Pringle, managed to hold only a single seat — All Saints East and St. Luke — a devastating result for an opposition that had hoped the cost-of-living pressures and water supply issues might erode the ABLP's dominance. BPM's Trevor Walker retained his hold on Barbuda, maintaining the island's tradition of independent political representation.
"The people of Antigua and Barbuda have spoken clearly and decisively," Prime Minister Browne said in his victory address. "This fourth mandate is not just a continuation — it is a Renaissance. We will build on every foundation we have laid and carry this nation forward."
International Congratulations
Caribbean leaders were swift to offer congratulations. CARICOM Chairman and Jamaica Prime Minister Andrew Holness called Browne to offer his warmest congratulations, while leaders from Barbados, Trinidad and Tobago, and the United States State Department acknowledged the results.
The ABLP's clean sweep of constituencies in St. John's and the rural parishes reflects the party's continued grip on its traditional strongholds, bolstered by major capital projects completed over the past term including hospital renovations, housing developments, and road rehabilitation under the Public Infrastructure Management Unit (PIMU).
