The 2026 ABWU Invitational and OECS Cycling Championships delivered a memorable day of regional competition on home soil, with Grenada's Red Walters seizing the feature OECS Elite Men's title while riders from Antigua and Barbuda gathered multiple podium finishes across the card to delight the home crowd.
Athletes representing Antigua and Barbuda, Grenada, Dominica, Anguilla, the British Virgin Islands, St. Vincent and the Grenadines, and St. Lucia tackled the challenging 19.046-kilometre circuit in a series of races that showcased the growing strength of cycling throughout the region.
Walters Dominates the Feature Event
The feature event of the day, the OECS Elite Men's Championship, produced an outstanding performance from Grenada's Red Walters, who stamped his authority on the race and rode away with the championship title. Walters completed the five-lap contest in 2:21:40.790, recording the fastest lap of the day at 44.29 km/h, finishing more than eight minutes ahead of the nearest challenger.
Antigua and Barbuda's Jyme Bridges delivered a strong ride to secure second place, while compatriot Tahje Browne rounded out the podium after an impressive performance against a highly competitive regional field. Dominica's Kohath Baron finished a close fourth, less than a second behind Browne.
The result reflected the growing depth of talent across the region, with the top ten featuring riders from Grenada, Antigua and Barbuda, Dominica, and St. Vincent and the Grenadines.
Antigua and Barbuda Sweeps Invitational Elite Podium
The home nation had reason for even greater celebration in the Invitational Elite Men's race. Robert Marsh of Antigua and Barbuda's East Side Riders team rode consistently throughout the five-lap contest to secure victory, followed by fellow Antiguan Abbiel Fleming, while Jaleel Cannonier completed an all-Antigua and Barbuda podium.
Junior Championship Showcases Caribbean's Cycling Future
The OECS Junior Men's Championship produced another exciting contest, with Tristun Viechweg of Grenada emerging victorious after a disciplined and well-managed race, finishing ahead of Anguilla's Kamari Ruan and Ephraim Hughes-Hodge.
Masters Divisions Deliver Tactical Racing
In the OECS Masters A Championship, Samuel Talbot of the British Virgin Islands claimed victory ahead of Desron Bynoe of St. Vincent and the Grenadines, while Antigua and Barbuda's Jason Adams secured an excellent third-place finish.
The OECS Masters B Championship saw Anguilla's Craig Emmanuel take top honours ahead of compatriot Patrick Niles, while Antigua and Barbuda's Paul Smith rounded out the podium.
Youth and Development Categories
The OECS Juvenile Championship saw Grenada's William Meyerer claim victory, while Antigua and Barbuda's Elite Thomas finished second after completing all three laps of the circuit. The Cadets 11–14 division was won by Sage Williams of St. Vincent and the Grenadines.
The Sports Class category, which provided an opportunity for developing and recreational riders to test themselves on the championship course, produced another strong Antigua and Barbuda showing. Eldon Farquharson took victory, followed by Dexter Simmons in second, while Anguilla's Carl Thomas rounded out the top three.
