Three Antiguan and Barbudan weightlifters are currently in Barbados for a high-performance training and development camp as the nation’s weightlifting programme steps up preparations for one of the Caribbean’s most prestigious multi-sport events.

A delegation from the Antigua and Barbuda Weightlifting Federation departed for Barbados on 28 May 2026 to take part in a one-week intensive training and development workshop hosted by the Barbados Weightlifting Association, running from 29 May to 4 June 2026.

The delegation comprises athletes Jaunii Nathaniel, Daniel Antonio, and Kevesha Nedwell, accompanied by Coach Durand Meade.

Professional Technical Support

The programme is led by Andrew Callender of the Barbados Weightlifting Association and includes additional technical support from a professional coach from USA Weightlifting. The workshop focuses on technical refinement, competition preparation, strength and conditioning, and sport science support tailored to peak performance at major events.

Pan Am Games in the Crosshairs

The timing of the camp is deliberate. The three athletes are earmarked for invitational slots at the 2026 Central American and Pan American Games in the Dominican Republic, and participation in this workshop forms part of their targeted preparation to maximise competitiveness at that multi-sport event.

Fully Funded, Regionally Supported

The training and workshop are fully funded by the Continental Weightlifting Federation, with logistical assistance provided by the Antigua and Barbuda National Olympic Committee.

The federation expressed gratitude for the support that has made the opportunity possible. “We are grateful to the Continental Federation and the Barbados hosts for this high-quality development opportunity. This workshop will strengthen our athletes and coaching staff as we continue to develop as a new sport and prepare for the Central America and Caribbean Games,” said Cliff Williams, Spokesperson of the Antigua and Barbuda Weightlifting Federation.

The delegation is expected to return to Antigua on 4 June 2026.
