The Antigua and Barbuda Athletics Association (ABAA) is set to host its annual National Youth Athletics Championships at the YASCO Sports Complex this Saturday and Sunday, with over 200 young athletes from 22 schools and clubs registered to compete.

The championships, which serve as the primary selection event for the CARIFTA Games squad, will feature 52 events across sprint, hurdles, relay, long jump, high jump, javelin, and distance running categories for boys and girls aged 9–15.

Athletes to Watch

ABAA Chief Technical Officer Linden Williams highlighted several athletes to watch, including 14-year-old Xavier Thomas in the Under-15 100m, who ran a wind-legal 10.98 seconds in a recent club meet. In the field events, 13-year-old Dominique Francis has already exceeded the CARIFTA qualifying standard in the long jump.

Competition begins at 8 AM Saturday with field events and continues through Sunday afternoon, with the sprint finals expected to draw large crowds. Admission is free and the public is encouraged to attend.
